A co-regulator.
A logic partner.
A tangent traveler.
It is, admittedly, incredibly hard to describe my approach to prospective clients. That’s because when you are in a session with me, our time is dynamic. We can go from random pop-culture references to breaking down painful thought patterns, to holding space for the most hurt parts of you in the span of an hour.
Each of my clients are uniquely wired individuals and my approach bends to match what each of them needs at any given moment. When my clients speak, I am tracking the interconnected web of what they’re saying, what they body is communicating, and how all of this connects to every other interaction we’ve had.
This allows me to pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches and help them see the puzzle pieces that they’ve been missing. We regulate. We make sense of things. We rescue your hurting parts and hold space for your protectors.
A client-focused, eclectic approach (if we’re being fancy)
I blend several approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT, Eye-movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS parts work), Somatic Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Socratic Questioning, and Polyvagal Theory.
I’m giving you this list not because you need to know that entire alphabet soup, but to demonstrate that my approach is fluid, adaptable, and multifaceted. It is rare that we will start a session with “Let’s do DBT today” or “Did you complete the CBT homework I assigned”.
Things may get a little structured at times, but generally speaking, sessions are focused on you and what you need at a given moment. It is important that you have a say in this process. I balance trusting your intuition and helping you identify and work with protective parts that tend towards avoidance.
